Ivan Begic: “Alla Virtus mi sento a casa”

Ivan, prima di tutto, come stai?
“Ciao, sto bene grazie”.

Vista l’emergenza Covid-19, sei rientrato in Croazia dalla famiglia, in attesa di aggiornamenti sulla ripresa degli allenamenti e del campionato. Cosa pensi di questa situazione?
“Quella in cui ci troviamo è una situazione molto particolare, nessuno avrebbe potuto aspettarsi uno sconvolgimento così importante, tutto quello che possiamo fare ora è aspettare e sperare che vada tutto per il meglio. Al momento sono a casa e sono amareggiato per quello che è accaduto, abbiamo bisogno di pregare (Dio) affinché tutto si risolva presto, per prima cosa per la vita delle persone e poi per lo sport e tutte le altre cose, che adesso dovrebbero passare in secondo piano”.

Cosa ne pensi della tua esperienza italiana ad Imola fino a questo momento?
“Per quanto riguarda il mio presente cestistico qui ad Imola che dire, ho solo un grande senso di gratitudine e di rispetto per i miei compagni, le persone della società e i fan. È la mia prima volta fuori dal mio Paese ma è come se mi fossi sentito a casa dal primo giorno e a mio agio con tutti. Il campionato è interessante e il livello dei giocatori alto, è stata una bella esperienza per me questa stagione”.

I tifosi ti hanno accolto da “eroe”. Che rapporto hai con loro?
“Solo onore e rispetto verso chi ama la sua squadra così tanto da supportarla sia nella buona che nella cattiva sorte, nonostante la vittoria o la sconfitta. I tifosi imolesi sono un esempio incredibile di attaccamento al club e ai suoi stessi giocatori, molte partite le abbiamo vinte soprattutto grazie al loro sostegno”.

La società, i tifosi e anche i ragazzi del settore giovanile ti hanno fatto sentire bene in questa esperienza?
“Come ho già detto prima, mi hanno tutti aiutato a sentirmi a mio agio qui in Italia partendo dall’addetto stampa arrivando fino al più giovane della società, che mi aiuta per le traduzioni e la lingua”.

Secondo te cosa succederà dopo il 3 aprile?
“Spero e confido che la federazione riuscirà a trovare presto la soluzione migliore per tutti, non sarà una scelta facile, ma staremo a vedere. Prima risolviamo la situazione virus in modo tale che la vita torni alla normalità, senza paura o situazioni di terrore, poi per il resto mettendo le cose in fila tutto si risolverà facilmente”.

“Hello,Im fine at now”

Due to Covid-19 emergence, you’ve gone to Croatia to stay there with your family, waiting for some news about the restart of practices and to know something about the championship. What do you think of this situation?
“This is a very specific situation we found ourselves in, no one could have expected such a turn of events. All we can do is wait and hope for the best. I am currently at home and I am sad that something like this has happened, but again we need pray to God that everything will be resolved soon, primarily for the life of people in general, and second of sports and other things that should not be in the first plan now”.

What do you think of your italian basketball experience here in Imola up to now?
“About basketball in Imola as well as the players, the people in the club, the fans I have only words of thanks and respect. It was my first experience out of my country and from first day I felt like at home with everyone. Championship is good, a lot of good players and It was one nice experience for me this season”.

Our supporters welcomed you as a “hero”. What’s your relationship to them?
“Any honor to the people who love their club so much would be defeat or victory. Virtus Imola fans are an example of a love for the club and the players who play it. We won many games thanks to their support”.

The team, the staff, the supporters and the young players of Intech Virtus, have they made you feel comfortable in this experience?
“As I said before, they all helped me to feel comfortable in Italy from the press officer to the youngest in the club, who helps me with the translations and the language”.

According to you, what will happens after the 3rd of April?
“Hope that federation will find some best solution for all. It will be very difficult but we’ll see. First, let’s resolve and calm the virus situation so that life returns to normal, that there is no fear or panic, and then the rest will be easily resolved”.
